August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). This annual observance highlights the importance of getting recommended vaccines throughout your life. You can protect yourself and your family from serious diseases such as whooping cough, cancers caused by HPV, and pneumonia through on-time vaccination. Vaccines aren’t just for kids!
On-time vaccination throughout childhood is essential because it helps provide immunity before children are exposed to potentially life-threatening diseases. For an immunization schedule for ages 18 years or younger, click here.
You may not realize that you need vaccines throughout your life. Adults need to keep their vaccinations up to date because immunity from childhood vaccines can wear off over time. All adults need an influenza (flu) vaccine every year and a Td or Tdap vaccine. You may need others based on age, health conditions, job, lifestyle, and travel habits.
Use CDC Travelers’ Health website to find out if your destination recommends or requires certain vaccines before you travel.
During your next visit, we encourage you to talk with us to make sure you are up to date on recommended vaccines. It is especially important for patients with chronic health conditions. If you have chronic health conditions you are at increased risk for complications from certain vaccine-preventable diseases.
At CAS Premier Health at Triangle Family Care, vaccines are not included in concierge services but may be administered at an additional cost per vaccine. For those with insurance, we recommend checking with your local pharmacist who can bill your insurance provider directly.
